Dignitaries Converge as Delta State Mourns: Madam Agnes Avwenyotoma Tager Laid to Rest

EVWRENI/Nigeria: The solemn occasion of laying to rest Madam Agnes Avwenyotoma Tager, mother of Delta State’s First Lady, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, gathered an impressive array of dignitaries at her country home in Evwreni, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the State.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, joined by distinguished figures including Senator Douye Diri of Bayelsa State and his wife Gloria, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, the wife of the Edo State Governor, and Mrs Titilola Adeleke of Osun State, led the esteemed attendees. Also present were Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, former Governors of the State, prominent senators, members of the House of Representatives, and various top government officials.

The ceremony, which drew attention for its illustrious guests, saw spiritual homage paid at the Eni Grammar School in Evwreni. Pastor Paul Onoroha of the Christ Apostolic Church delivered a poignant sermon on “Character,” emphasizing its paramount importance in life and leadership. He urged leaders to wield their authority responsibly for the greater good.

Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude for the distinguished presence, acknowledging the significant impact his late mother-in-law had on numerous lives. He pledged to strive towards meeting the aspirations of Deltans, emphasizing unity and support for his administration’s objectives.

Paying tribute to the departed matriarch, Governor Oborevwori described her as a paragon of virtue, a role model, and a dedicated servant of God and humanity. Amidst expressions of gratitude to attendees for their support during the family’s time of mourning, prayers were offered for Madam Tager’s eternal peace.

The Chief mourner, Mrs Tobore Oborevwori, in a heartfelt tribute, vowed to uphold her mother’s enduring legacy.

The somber procession that escorted Madam Tager’s remains from the Navy Hospital morgue in Effurun to Evwreni was a sight to behold. The convoy, traversing the East West road, drew the gaze of many, culminating in a lively procession upon arrival in Evwreni. Pallbearers adorned in vibrant garb danced through the town, adding a touch of festivity to the occasion. The casket, carrying the late Agnes Avwenyotoma Tager, was transported triumphantly to the open-air service venue.

The heartfelt tribute and the mammoth crowd led in worship by gospel artist Moses Bliss echoed the reverence and honor accorded to Madam Tager, who passed away at the age of 86. The community’s overwhelming presence testified to the profound impact she had on numerous lives, a legacy that continues to resonate within Delta State.
