Ten months after, members of the diocese, Sapele Anglican Communion, Cathedral Church of St. Luke Boyo Road Sapele have remained adamant in total disobedience to an earlier court order compelling them to reopened the church of God to enable members worship their God, rather they chose to worship under rented canopies each Sunday along Boyo road in a continuous protest that their Spiritual head, Bishop Erifeta must go.
A senior clergy of the diocese who spoke to journalists in Sapele in the condition of anonymity, during one of the worship services said the church obeyed the court order by reopening the church, but their members did not go in to worship God not until the matter is resolved and the church of God reconsecreted.
He said, “As it were, no one could go in to serve God, the problem still remained unresolved, since the Bishop (Rt. Rev (Dr) B.A. Erifeta JP) at the centre of the drama has not be replaced and members still hell bent that he must leave for peace to rain’’.
The clergy said for many months, most of them have not been paid their salaries none of their churches except few pay their usual assessment dues to the diocese and that their spiritual head now worship God outside the main Anglican churches in Sapele, explaining further that it is only the few clergies that are close to the Bishop that still receiving their regular monthly salaries, adding that the Bishop has in many occasions told them that the men of God among them that have other certificates other that pastoral qualification should go and look for jobs elsewhere since he could not pay them.
He appealed to those in charge of their headquarters at Abuja to come to their rescue and that all members should serve God in one mind, trust in the Almighty God which can only set them free.
Others who spoke, at the services Elder Daniel Erabor, peoples warden Oghenero Onojorovwo, the youth president, Mr. Clinton Gbagrada, etc maintained that their Bishop must leave them because of the sins they alleged he has committed explaining that if he should plead for forgiveness, they will forgive him, but he cannot remain their Bishop no matter the circumstance remarking that their members are in the majority while the Bishop is just one person leading them and that they cannot allow him to lead them astray any more despite all his attempt to frustrate moves starting from the zone 5 Benin case with the A.I.G, as they called on their members to remain steadfast for the battle against evil adding that none amongst them wanted to become a Bishop rather their battle is for the truth “and a legacy their forefather had put in place which no one should destroy”.
Mr. Obukohwo Joseph another member of the diocese had this to say, “The Primate of the Anglican Communion has no regard for us in Sapele, if the crisis in Sapele Diocese were to be happening in other Anglican provinces, he would have taken action even two weeks from the beginning of the crisis, he cannot impose Bishop Erifeta on us, they think they can manuover the people by using delay tactics it will fail woefully, Bishop Erifeta is a bad man, he must account for all his atrocities he has done to Sapele diocese.
Mrs. Lillian Okpako added “Barrack and the soldiers, it is battle between heaven and hell, in all God will win and the agent of darkness will be disgraced and Sapele diocese will be liberated from the grip of oppression, greed and stagnation, without ministry words, Bishop Erifeta should leave us alone now that we are asking him and those in authority to take him away and they are adamant they will soon see fire”.
Mrs. Biokoro Okoro, on her own added, “The house of Bishop in the church of Nigeria Anglican communion are working to ensure that nothing happen to Bishop Erifeta even if it will cost losing the entire member to other denominations, we see high leave desperation in this matter this is a battle between light and darkness, it is a battle between truth and lies, it is a battle between the will of the people and personal gain, it is a battle between the employs and the employee.
