ABUJA/Nigeria: The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has underscored the pivotal role of fostering a conducive environment for tourism to flourish, aiming to position it as a potential linchpin in the nation’s economy.
In a recent visit to Senator Ned Nwoko in Abuja, the Director of FCT Tourism Department, Ann Dogo, led a delegation comprising Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), the FCT Tourism Volunteers Network, Africa Tourism Board, and Project Fly With Us Africa.
The primary objective of the visit was to bolster collaboration with Senator Nwoko, acknowledging his noteworthy contributions to the country’s creative sector, particularly in tourism and sports development.
Mrs. Dogo emphasized Nigeria’s vast potential to emerge as a global leader in tourism, highlighting the sector’s capability as an economic powerhouse that can steer comprehensive national development. She articulated the significance of a secure and welcoming environment for tourism, asserting that such conditions would attract direct foreign investment and generate employment opportunities.
Referencing prosperous tourist destinations like Dubai and Malaysia, Mrs. Dogo urged the government to make substantial investments in the tourism sector. Drawing parallels with successful models, she conveyed the transformative impact such investments could have on Nigeria’s economic landscape.
In response, Senator Ned Nwoko expressed gratitude for the delegation’s focus on discussing the tourism sector. He committed to leveraging his influence to advocate for legislation prioritizing the development of the sector in the National Assembly. The senator believed that, with adequate attention and strategic measures, Nigeria could solidify its position as the giant of Africa.
