DSTG Inaugurates 8-Man Committee on Mineral Resources, Environmental Management

ASABA/Nigeria: The State Government has inaugurated an 8-man Committee on Mineral Resources and Environmental Management with a charge to members to plan and fashion out ways of boosting solid mineral production in the State.

Inaugurating the committee, the Secretary to Delta State Government SSG Hon. Festus Agas said the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development would provide logistics support as soon as the committee became operational.

Hon. Agas listed the committee’s terms of reference to include liaising with the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development Abuja and other relevant ministries as well as the host communities and mining operators in the state and to submit periodic reports to the Government through the Office of the SSG.

Those inaugurated are Barrister John Edijala as chairman, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Agriculture and natural Resources Sir Ede Oghoro, the Surveyor General Mr. Joe Ogabu and the Permanent Secretary Ministry of lands, survey and Urban Development, Mr. Jude Aguonye as members.

Other members are Permanent secretary Ministry of Environment, Mrs Nkem Ajufo, representative of the Federal ministry of Environment Mr. John Emeka Onyetenu, Mr Itiako Ikpokpo, and a Mines Officer, Mrs Kuye as the secretary of the committee.

The Chairman of the committee Barr John Edijala on behalf of the members pledged the committee’s readiness to do its best in spite of the challenges inherent in the mining business and assured that the SSG would be contacted whenever the need arose and thanked him for the inauguration.
