ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly, has assured Deltans that due process will be followed in the passing the Proposed Bill on Establishment of the Delta Internal Revenue Service Board by the State Government, and in any other bill in the state.
The Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon Christopher Ochor made the position of the house, in response to the demand of the Civil Society Organisation, CSO, at the gate of the State Assembly complex, Asaba on Tuesday, May 12, 2020.
According Rt. Hon Ochor Ochor, he stated that the legislatures will not pass any law which will affect the people negatively as they are the representative of the people of the state, and promised that such action had never happen, and will never happen.
“This House of Assembly is made up of representatives of the different constituencies, the members cannot pass any bill that will be inimical to the people of the state.”
The Deputy Speaker, while thanking the protesters of being orderly, stated that the house does not also believe that the state government under, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, will not initiate any program that that will negatively affect the wellbeing of the citizens.
He stated that the interest of the Assembly is to enact laws that will better the lives of Deltans, and not do the otherwise. He assured the protesters that their message will be looked into by the house, as the said Bill is now with the House Committee on Finance.
“As long as this Assembly is concern. As long as the members of the this Assembly is concern, and as much as we know the Governor, the people of Delta will always be given the much needed attention in policy formulation, which will add value to their lives.
The protest which was organised by a group under the Civil Society of Delta State Extraction demanding for a public Hearing on the Bill.
The Bill meanwhile had been passed after it had passed first and second readings, and was referred to the committee on Bills and Public Account Committee.
