ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly had commanded a Non-Governmental Organisation, Connected Development, CODE, which is working with United State Agency for International Development, USAID, to carryout education on proper water usage and hygiene in some parts of the Nigeria.
Given the commendation on Wednesday 4 December, 2019, the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon Christopher Ochor Ochor, said that the place of water and hygiene in the life of Nigerians, especially in Delta cannot be overemphasized, as the state is known for its water abundance.
The Deputy Speaker, who represented the Speaker, Rt. Hon Sherriff Oborevwori, however pointed out that abundance of water in any community does not connote availability of water, matched with good hygiene, as when the water is not pure, such area or community cannot be said to have water, especially for human usage which is very vital for the health and well being of the population.
While noting on the request of the NGO to continue their legislative duty for continuous legislating on bills for effective regulating water usage and hygiene in the state, and proper oversight monitoring of the process, he assured the readiness of the legislative arm of government to continue the proper legislative duty to safe guide the lives of Deltans, as healthy, good hygiene is very vital which should not be taken for granted by any serious government.
Earlier, the Assistant Project Lead of CODE-USAID-WASH, Mr Busayo Morakinyo, had commended the Delta State House of Assembly for passing the Bill on Water Hygiene, and Sanitation into law.
Present during the Advocacy visit were Hon Solomon Irakpata, Uvwie State Constituency, and Hon Fred Martins, Warri North State Constituency.
