ASABA/Nigeria: The Chairman of the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Transport, Honourable Festus Okoh, has reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to fostering a more robust partnership with the State Directorate of Transport. This determination, he asserted, aimed at significantly improving service delivery for the people of Delta State.
During the presentation of the 2024 budget estimate by Mr. Onoriode Agofure, the Commissioner overseeing the Directorate, Honourable Okoh, who also serves as the Deputy Majority Leader and represents the Ika South constituency, emphasized the pivotal role the Directorate holds in realizing the government’s MORE agenda.
Okoh, accompanied by fellow committee members, notably Honourable Austin Uroye, urged the Directorate to raise its standards for better performance in the upcoming 2024 fiscal year.
In his address to the Committee, Commissioner Onoriode Agofure shared projections for the 2024 fiscal year, expressing optimism about surpassing the achievements of the outgoing year. He revealed plans for the allocation of funds, earmarking N350 million for the installation of road traffic and warning signs across the State, citing previous vandalism of existing signage.
Furthermore, Agofure outlined initiatives to construct and rehabilitate jetties in the riverine regions, citing their integral role in advancing infrastructural development in these areas.
Highlighting the necessity of staff training and development, particularly for government drivers, Agofore stressed the Directorate’s commitment to continuous education and skill enhancement.
The Commissioner appealed for adequate budgetary provisions in the 2024 appropriation bill to facilitate the realization of the Directorate’s objectives.
Expressing gratitude for the support received, Agofure sought increased collaboration with the Assembly Committee on Transport to bolster operational efficiency within the Directorate.
Accompanying the Commissioner for the budget defense at the State Assembly were the Permanent Secretary, alongside several Directors from the ministry, among others.
