DTHA Sues for Stop Against Gender Inequality

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly has called for stop to issues of gender inequality in the country, as there is no inequality when it comes to humans before God.

This call was made by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, during a  One Day Sexual and Gender Based Violence Awareness Stakeholders Conference, organized by the Delta State Sexual and Gender Based Violence Team, (DSGBVRT) in conjunction with the 05 Initiatives Foundation, held in the state capital, Asaba on Monday, December 2, 2019.

The speaker who was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Christopher Ochor Ochor, while appreciating the organisers of the conference, said such gathering is always a good avenue to discuss issues that affects both sex in the society, especially gender based violence and sexual harassment of the girl child.

He admonished parents to bring up their wards to always be properly dressed, as well as be morally okay at any time, and not to be found wanting on things that will generate attack of any form.

“We the parents have major roles to play in the upbringing and security of our children as it is important for us to train our children morally and to be of good conduct at all times. The girls need to dress decently and the boys need to portray good morals.”

He further stated that gender based violence, rape, girl child trafficking and the rest of it have caused more harm to the girl child and  as such should be put to a stop as he advised   security agencies to put up a unit to accommodate complaints on gender based violence and sexual harassment to enable them to arrest perpetrators of any form sexual or gender violence.
