ASABA/Nigeria: The General Manager, Delta State Urban Water Corporation, Engr. Nosa Okoh, has revealed that efforts are being intensified to ensure effective water supply in urban areas across the state.
Engr. Okoh, who made the disclosure in Asaba while fielding questions from journalists, said that the corporation under his watch was irrevocably committed to realising its mandate of creating access to water in urban areas.
He commended the State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, for the systematic approach geard forwards unraveling issues of poor water supply experienced before his administration, adding that the corporation through the State Ministry of Water Resources Development was interfacing with relevant international development partners with a view to improving the condition of water schemes / facilities in the state.
Engr. Okoh, who stated that the corporation had provided water in Ogwuashi-uku, Issele-uku , Bomadi among others, noted that the E-WASH programme had achieved so much for the water sector, just as he said that the corporation now has a functional website and data centre.
The Urban Water Corporation boss, further disclosed that the state government had concluded plans to partner with the Zambian water agency known as the Lusaka Water and Sewage Company in order for the corporation, other water supply agencies and the ministry in particular to be mentored by the company in the area of water sustainability, especially as it was in Zambia.
Engr. Okoh, also reiterated that the metering policy was aimed at evaluating the actual volume of water supply, adding that the initiative had commenced in 17 water schemes in the state.
While saying that in 2025, there was global projection of one hundred percent uninterrupted water supply in any society, Engr. Okoh, enumerated the challenges confronting water supply to include unstable power supply, water pipeline destruction by construction companies as well as lack of confidence among others.
He told water consumers that the state government was working round the clock to ensure that they would no longer go through any stress to access water.
