DTSG Expresses Commitment to Eradicate Tropical Diseases

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the eradication and elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).

The Chairman of the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency (DSPHCDA), Dr Isioma Okobah, made this known recently during the 2019 Strategic Planning Meeting of Neglected Tropical Diseases.

Dr Okobah said that the state in collaboration with The Carter Centre was desirous of eliminating Neglected Tropical Diseases in the state.

She said that the diseases which are caused by pathogens mostly found in rural dwellings can be eliminated with the drugs provided by The Carter Centre with support from the state government.

Dr Okobah, who expressed satisfaction with progress made during the year 2018, charged them to scale up their plans for 2019 to reach more Deltans.

The Executive Director of the Agency, Dr Jude Winful-Orieke, commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for always providing the state’s counterpart funds.

Dr Winful-Orieke who acknowledged the contribution of The Carter Centre for their technical and financial assistance towards the programme, enjoined participants to avoid falsification of data.

The Director of The Carter Centre, Mr Ndudi Okocha, who explained that the meeting was to develop new strategies towards better coverage, noted that Delta State was able to cover its 2018 work plan because of the dedication of health workers.
