ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government had been able to foster a peaceful coexistence and the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC.
The commissioner for energy Barr. Newword Safughan disclosed while briefing journalists recently at ministry of information conference hall.
According to him, he said that the governmentt has ensured peaceful coexistence between the electricity provider and consumers in the state. Stressing that the ministry held meetings with the BEDC management and communities to ensure that all communities that were disconnected from the national grid by BEDC are reconnected again. These communities includes: patani town,olomoro community, lbusa town,Onitsha Ugbo,Akwukwu- Igbo,Issele Uku,Ogwasi- Uku, Kwale, Abbi,Bomadi,and Udu.
Newword Safugha maintained that the government is currently undertaking the conversation of generator powered streetlights to public power supply. He pointed out some town across the state that has been completed which is, Asaba, Warri, Effurun, Oghara, Ughelli and Sepele. Other places are government offices housing units and lodges.
Also, he said that the governmentt are making provisions to provide electricity power supply infrastructure in therural areas.
Meanwhile, he pointed out some of the challenges on the power supply in the state: absence of transmission infrastructure in parts of the state, vandalization of electricity projects, some communities at riverine areas cannot have access to power from the national grid, high cost of power project and others.
