DTSG Pledges Necessary Facilities In Tertiary Institutions.

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has says his administration would continue to give priority attention to the Education sector in the state, with a promise to give continuous priority to providing the necessary facilities to tertiary institutions in the state.

The Governor stated this when he inspected the ongoing construction of the new Government Secondary School in Ughelli, and the renovation works being carried out in Uhrobo College, Effurun and also Chude Girls Model School, Sapele and the ongoing construction of modern classroom blocks at Ijorugu Primary School Oku-Ijorugu in Okpe Local Government Area.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, Governor Okowa reiterated the commitment of his administration in the development of the Basic and Secondary Education subsector.

While noting that emphasis in the year 2018 would be placed on construction of Infrastructure and Equipping of the new schools established by his administration, the Governor stressed that his administration would continue to take steps aimed at making academic activities in these schools conducive.

Speaking further the education commissioner, Mr. Ebie emphasised that Governor Okowa is determined to make renovation/upgrade of schools in Delta State a Continuous process.

He urged the Contractors handling the Ministry Projects to keep to the contract specification in their bills of quantities in other to deliver quality Jobs, that would stand the test of time as the state Government would not tolerate shoddy Jobs done by the Contractors and that anyone found wanting would be sanctioned.

At the Government Secondary School Ughelii, the Commissioner expressed his satisfaction at the level of work done so far, while commending the contractor for doing a good Job, At Urhobo College and Chude Girls Model Schools where renovation works was being carried out.

Mr. Ebie urged the contractors to expedite action, so that the renovation work can be completed within the shortest possible time.

The government in a related development has pledged to put all necessary facilities in place to make its tertiary institutions one of the best in the country.

The State Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro made the pledge on Thursday, 8th February, 2018, at the induction/ presentation of a book written by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, at the Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara.

Barr. Otuaro said the book entitled ” The Power Of Your Mind “, was a fallout of the stakeholders meeting held last year against the spate of cultism in all levels of education in the State.

He said the book which will be part of the academic curriculum in tertiary institutions was to inculcate the right morals into school children and urged them to uphold positive ideals that will catapult them to the pinnacle of their careers in life.

The Deputy Governor reminded the Rector of the school of the need to take proper analysis of the impact of the book on students life as against the vices many of them were into before now.

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Sir Jude Sinebe, described the induction and presentation of the book as timely and expressed hope that provision of basic tools for learning in all tertiary institutions will enable them perform optimally.

The Rector of the polytechnic, Prof. Emmanuel Ogujor thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for all the development he has attracted to the school and assured him of the support of the institution in the promotion of the SMART agenda.

Prof. Ogujor outlined innovations in the school since his appointment last year to include internet facilities, improved power supply from generators, war against examination malpractices and academic excellence.

He appealed to the State Government to help complete the school’s new auditorium, provide coastal buses to ease transportation challenge, build skills acquisition centre, recruitment of academic staff and accreditation of some courses.

Presenting the book, Pastor Jide Owoyemi said the power to succeed in life revolves round our thought.

He recommended the book to students of tertiary institutions in Delta State emphasizing it will be part of the General Studies 101 from the next academic session.

The President of the students Union of the school, Comrade Evayabore Johnson commended Governor Okowa for his love for the education sector and appealed to him to assist in the reduction of school fees paid by Delta students in tertiary institutions in the State.
