ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Government (DTSG) has reiterated its commitment to identify the potentials in all learners in Primary and Secondary Schools in the field of science so as to guarantee a better and safer tomorrow.
The State Commissioner for Primary Education, Chief Sunday Onoriode stated this in Asaba on the occasion of presentation of awards to the pupils and students who emerged first, second and third in the 2022 Science Exhibition Competition.
Chief Onoriode said that Okowa administration had continued to encourage talented learners to be able to actualise their dreams in schools before they got destructed.
He said that the projects made by the learners in primary schools demonstrated the State Government’s desire to awaken the spirit of hard work among children.
The Commissioner noted that over 2000 pupils who participated in the preliminary stage of the competition from both private and public primary schools in Delta State, 75 pupils participated during the zonal stage.
He further stated that 21 pupils took part in the final contest, adding that 3 were selected to be given awards for their outstanding performances.
In her keynote address, the State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro said that the students had proven to be good and worthy ambassadors of the state.
Mrs. Ezewu stated that they had shown to be good disciplinarian with strong morals and academic determination especially for achieving such enviable record of academic and moral glories.
The Secondary Education Commissioner said that the State Government had deemed it fit to recognise six students, three each from the junior and senior secondary.
She hinted that over 4,000 students participated during the preliminary in both private and public secondary schools in the state, adding that 150 students participated in the zonal stage.
Mrs. Ezewu also stated that 42 students took part in the final examination and 6 students were selected to receive an award, stressing that the award was aimed at encouraging to attain higher levels in their educational pursuit.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Director of Science Education, Mrs. Hope Igumbor said that the competition was done in three stages with the preliminary conducted in the 25 Local Government Areas while the zonal and final competitions were done in 7 centres and Government Model Secondary school, Asaba respectively.
Mrs. Igumbor, however, commended the State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Commissioner for Primary Education, Chief Sunday Onoriode and the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu for the opportunity given to her department to hunt for the tarlents who were presented with awards of excellence.
It could be recalled that three pupils from Primary School category were honoured with awards , three students also received from junior secondary also received awards while three from the secondary category were presented with awards.
