ASABA/Nigeria: The State Government has reiterated its resolve to put modalities in place to ensure that road projects in the state stand the test of time.
The State commissioner for Works, Chief James Augoye stated this in Warri while declaring open a two day retreat for Civil Engineers in the State Ministry of Works.
Chief Augoye said the Okowa administration has committed about one hundred and sixty four billion naira for the execution of roads projects in the past two years, hence the retreat was aimed at improving performance in road construction and other infrastructures.
He said the retreat which would be an annual event would avail the engineers the opportunity to horn their skills and increase their knowledge on modern practices of the profession as well as proffer solutions to both existing and emerging challenges at project sites.
The Works Commissioner urged the participants to put to heart all that were discussed and come up with solutions that would improve service delivery and capacity as well as develop civil engineering in the state.
While saying that field engineers not present at the retreat risked being redeployed to the State Ministry of Works headquarters in Asaba, Chief Augoye thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for supporting the program which he said would go a long way to develop human resources in the Ministry.
Earlier, the functioning Permanent secretary of the Ministry of Works, Engineer Alfred Edafioghor commended the State Government for initiating the program, saying it would reposition the Ministry for future assignments as well as improve the attitudes of the engineers towards work.
