ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Chiedu Ebie had said his ministry will carryout quality assurance on private schools regularly to ensure that the set standards for schools in the state are kept, as he assured of continuous support for the growth and development of the sector by providing the enabling environment for sustained teaching and learning.
Mr Ebiemade made this known during the presentation of 276 licenses to cleared private schools in the state at the Conference Hall of the Olorogun Felix Ibru Secretariat, Asaba.
The commissioner said that the issuance of new licenses to private schools in the state was a call to higher commitment, stating that the schools would be subjected to quality assurance test from time to time to ensure that the overall quality of teaching and learning was enhanced and sustained.
He stated that the proliferation of unregistered private schools in the state which did not meet the benchmarks for approval provided the impetus for the revalidation exercise which he said, received the approval of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in order to sanitize the education sector for the benefit of all.
He thanked the private school owners for participating in the revalidation exercise while urging those who could not make the first phase of the issuance of the new licenses to avail themselves of the one month period of grace to meet the condition for revalidation saying erring schools would soon be appropriately sanctioned
Earlier, the Director, Inspectorate and Quality Assurance, Mr Vincent Magboma, said that the issuance of new licenses to private school owners was intended to stop the proliferation of unregistered schools in the state and ensure that only schools who met the required standards were allowed to operate.
