ASABA/Nigeria: Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta expressed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the traditional institution for sustainable development in the state through the execution of his M.O.R.E. Agenda. He made this known during a courtesy visit by the leadership and members of the Traditional Rulers’ Council in the state at Government House, Asaba on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Governor Oborevwori commended the traditional rulers in the state for their efforts in ensuring peace during the general elections. He urged them to continue promoting peace for meaningful development to thrive in their domains. The governor also appealed to the traditional rulers to extend their support to him, just as they did to his predecessor, and assured them of his willingness to seek their fatherly advice when necessary.
“It is my honor and privilege to receive our royal fathers this morning. I am very glad for this courtesy visit. I want to thank our royal fathers for the role that they played during the last elections. We know that they are not partisan but they were able to maintain peace in their respective domains, and it is my wish that they should continue to keep that peace,” said Governor Oborevwori.
“I have come to serve Deltans not as a leader but a servant-leader. I will continue to partner with our royal fathers and seek advice from them from time to time. I am somebody that is very close to the grassroots, and I will continue to be very close to the grassroots. In my M.O.R.E. Agenda, I promised Deltans that I want to be governor for all Deltans, and I am a governor for all Deltans. I want to solicit for more support from you. At this time, there are a lot of challenges, but we need your prayers and support. I need more of the support that you gave to the immediate past governor of the state,” he added.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized that his administration would embark on development projects and programs without partisanship, in line with his M.O.R.E. Agenda, and that the focus would be on the people. He reassured Deltans that his government would not base the siting of projects or initiation of programs on political affiliations, and reiterated his commitment to being a governor for all Deltans.
Furthermore, the governor pledged to bring more development to riverine communities and promised to prioritize practical development throughout the state. He also affirmed his administration’s dedication to continuing the state government’s social investment programs aimed at eradicating poverty, and emphasized the importance of meaningful engagement of more people in these efforts.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Delta State Traditional Council and the Orodje of Okpe, Retired Maj-Gen Felix Mujekperuo, Orhue I, congratulated Governor Oborevwori and his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, on their successful inauguration. He commended the immediate past governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for the seamless handover to his successor.
The Okpe monarch expressed hope that Governor Oborevwori would bring much-needed development to all parts of the state, with the aim of leaving Delta in a better state than he found it. He advised the governor to consider the entire state as his constituency and focus on meaningful development, emphasizing the need for equitable distribution of appointments across the state.
The Traditional Ruler assured the governor of the support of the traditional institution in the state and reiterated their willingness to provide fatherly advice whenever necessary.
