EDO DECIDES – INEC Must Must Protect Citizens From Covied19 During Edo Election.

BENINI-CITY/Nigeria: The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC was today urged to collaborate with the National Center for Disease Control, NCDC for the smooth Conduct of the September 19, Edo State Governorship Election in order to curb the convid-19 pandemic.

This was part of the communique reach at an enlarged stakeholders meeting held in Benin City which has a ” Security Preparation Towards a Peaceful and Credible Edo State 2020 Governorship Election” During Edo Election.

The town hall meeting had in attendance, officials and men from various security agencies, civil society organizations and the Media.

Tn a remark, Convener of the event and Executive Director, Centre for transparency advocacy, Ms Faith Nwadeshi said the objective of the meeting was to work towards synergising and partnering with citizens and critical stakeholders for a Free and Fair Election in the State.

Ms Nwadeshi who called on political parties, and their supporters to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful manner, devoid of acrimony and hate speeches urged Residents to be watchful and give factual information to security agencies for the peaceful conduct of the election.

In the State explained that only collaboration of INEC with staffers of NCDC will aid in curbing the convid-19 pandemic during the election.

Some participants at the event, including the Edo state Director, National Orientation Agency, Mrs Grace Eseka urged the electorates to ensure they use facemasks, handsanitisers and embark on social distancing during voting.

The event ended with the participants calling for the repeal of the Nations law and the Electoral act in other to avoid litigation bedeviling conduct of Elections in Nigeria.
