Education As Capacity For Curbing Extreme Poverty Underscored

AGBOR/Nigeria: The Youths of Alihame Community in Agbor Kingdom have been advised to take Education very seriously as a genuine capacity of overcoming extreme poverty in life.

This advice was given by Elder Jacob Nwaedozie, the Secretary General of Alihame Community Development Union during the Annual Conference of the Community held at the Community main hall.

Elder Jacob Nwaedozie said that the year’s conference is basically focused on the Youths and called on them to take Education very seriously in life as the capacity for curbing poverty.

He explained that in spite of the current situation that the Nation is undergoing, that get-rich-quick syndrome Education remains the best avenue to genuine richness and the best legacy parents can bequeath to their Children.

He stressed that although the road through Education is slow it brings the best in the life of anybody that embraces it and gives him or her the best capacity to acquire genuine and long-lasting wealth that gives one peace of mind.

He further advised them not to use the current unemployment situation in the Country to disabuse their minds of acquiring education because employment opportunities could come at any time and only those who are academically ready could benefit from it.

He enjoined them to take very good advantage of the Establishment of the University of Delta, Agbor to better their lots as well that employment opportunities abound in the University for those who are academically ready.

Earlier in his opening remarks, Prof Mike Oshiele, the chairman of the organising committee of the Conference said that this year’s conference which was tagged, ” Reorienting the Youths for Capacity Development” was designed as an interactive forum to find the problem facing the Youths and see how to proffer solutions to such problems.

He explained that the conference is aimed at changing the mindsets of the Youths in terms of Education and how the Elders can be of help to some of the challenges that may be confronting them academically and otherwise.

He called on Parents to do more in advising their Children on the inherent dangers in the get-rich-quick syndrome which many youths are involved in explaining that wealth acquired through Education gives one peace of mind and long life even if it takes time to actualise.

He challenged the youths to organised themselves through healthy association through which they can exchange ideas as well as access support from the elders as well as relevant agencies and government towards developing themselves and the Community of Alihame.
