ASABA/Nigeria: In an official statement released by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Rotimi Babalola, the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology announced the successful conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) across secondary schools in the state. The monitoring team, led by Mr. Olusanjo Adeniyi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness demonstrated by both schools and students during the examinations.
The BECE is an important assessment taken by students after completing three years of junior secondary education nationwide.
During the monitoring visits to various schools, Adeniyi, accompanied by other directors, commended the Heads of schools and students for their exemplary conduct during the ongoing BECE and the 2023/2024 Unified Promotion examination for Junior Secondary School Three (JSS 3) students.
Adeniyi praised the government’s efforts in ensuring better performance and stated, “From the schools visited by the team, the conduct was satisfactory. Our officers from ten educational zones and local educational zones have gone round, and all the reports indicate that the pupils conducted themselves well.”
The monitoring team also made a special visit to schools catering to students with special needs. Adeniyi remarked, “We have also decided to come here to see candidates that are special, those that have hearing impairments, and what we saw here is also okay.”
Furthermore, the Permanent Secretary encouraged the students to maintain their composure throughout the examination period, emphasizing the significance of the BECE as the terminal class examination for students who began their journey in JSS one, culminating in JSS Three.
Adeniyi expressed optimism that the smooth conduct of the examination would be sustained throughout its duration. He urged students to aspire to achieve their academic goals, which would serve as a foundation for their future success.
The schools visited during the monitoring exercise included Anglican Commercial Grammar School, Orita-Mefa, Oba Akinbiyi Model School Mokola, Ikolaba High School, and Methodist Grammar School, among others.
