Dr. Ejakpovi made the call at the maiden edition of national cultural day celebration of DELSOHTECH held at the College arena, Ofuoma-Ughelli.

Joel Bisina; Dr Chris Oharisi, a member of the Governing Council, among other personalities attended the cultural event where Prof. Lucky Eboh represented by Dr Stephen Diejomaoh delivered a lecture titled, “Culture of academic indiscipline and violence in Nigeria Colleges of Health Technology, a volte face?”
According to Dr. Ejakpovi who spoke through a member of the Governing Council, Hon. Sunny Tatabuzogwu, traditional rulers as the custodians of the people’s culture should take a position to protect and preserve the culture of the people, asserting, “our traditional rulers should help us address the issue of preserving our language; in the past, our parents insisted on speaking our language to our children but, these days, our native tongues are not spoken at our different homes which is condemnable,”

“We should not forget that there are countries where students learn in their native tongues, so, why must we imbibe everything foreign to the detriment of what we are known for?” he asked, asserting, “our traditional rulers have a lot to do and we as parents should also, play our roles at home because, our culture depicts where we are from and we should not be ashamed of our culture but, should engage in actions to preserve what we have.”
He described the introduction of national cultural day as a novel to showcase different cultural heritage of Africa.
Earlier Hon. Bisina who was the Chairman of the occasion, reiterated that “the place of culture is dying in our society and I commend the Governing Council and the Provost of the College for fixing a day for the celebration of our culture; Africa has a rich culture and it is our duty to protect it.”
The traditional rulers at the occasion, said, “If every Nigerian school is doing this, we will not forget our culture, we will continue to support you in the promotion of our culture.”

In a related development, the Provost, College of Health Technology, Ofuoma, Ughelli, Dr. (Mrs) has charged students to shun antisocial activities, especially, exam malpractice, cultism, prostitution, armed robbery, among others.
Dr Olojoba gave the charge at the weekend while speaking at the 21st matriculation ceremony of the College of Health Technology, Ofuoma.
