The Chairman, Governing Council College of Health Technology, Ofuoma-Ughelli (DESCOHTECH), Dr. (Pharm.) Nelson Ejakpovi has said love for one another is panacea for crisis rocking institutions of higher learning in the country.
Dr. Ejakpovi dropped the hint while speaking at a special praise and thanksgiving session christened, ‘Day of Praise’ at DESCOHTECH.
According to him, “institutions of higher learning are places where we tap knowledge and knowledge is light,” adding, “to check challenges facing such institutions, we must start with love, we must learn to love ourselves, we must learn to trust ourselves and know that we must make positive contributions to human history.”
“This is my third time of coming as Chairman, Delta State College of Health Technology; after my inauguration, I asked God, why College of Health again? But, God knows I still have some work to do; I first came in a taxi and I saw a charged environment and when we resumed, we made a lot of changes and I want to sincerely apologize to those who were hurt as a result of the changes but, in doing the job, we must step on toes, you cannot make an omelet without breaking eggs,” he said, asserting, “we are not to factionalize the school, we want to unite everybody, most of our names have God in it, but, how much is our God reflected in our characters?”
He continued, “the greatest commandment of God is love, in every place we find ourselves, we must be our brothers’ keepers, we must discharge our functions with love; in taking decisions, we must ask, how will we feel, if we are at the receiving end? There will be no sentiment in discharging our duties because, every individual here is important.”
Dr. Ejakpovi disclosed that due to the importance of praise and thanksgiving, “the Governing Council has approved second Wednesday of every month as a day of praise and worship because, God is wonderful and this is a forum where everybody is equal before God, where we will all see ourselves as one and live as one united people.”
He charged the students to take their studies seriously, noting, “We have an effective management and students should play their roles by studying hard.”
Earlier, a member of the Governing Council of the institution, Hon. Sunny Tatabuzogwu said, the affairs of the state were in the hands of God as “our Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa is a prayer warrior and most politicians in the state are practicing Christians.”
The Provost of the College, Dr. (Mrs) Agnes Olojoba in a brief speech, urged the staff and students of the institution “to hold very firmly to God, there is nothing that is difficult for God, read your books, follow our rules and regulations and success is yours.”
An array of men of God attended the ceremony and those who preached at the occasion, Pastor Gilbert Oghifo of First Baptist Church, Ughelli and Pastor Nnamdi Ofulu urged Christians to be of good behaviour so that their actions will be appreciated by man and God.
The occasion which was very colourful with guest artistes performing, featured prayers for the country, the state, Governor Okowa, the institution, the Governing Council, management and staff of the College.
