Rev Chukwudi Eke and other prominent sons and daughters of Ndokwa had sued for peaceful coexistence in Ndokwa nation. The assertion was made on Sunday, August 2, 2015 in Kwale during a peace symposium organised by Coalition of Ndokwa Peace Ambassadors (COPAN), with a theme: “See it and Say it”.
The symposium which was the highlight of the one weak rally which took the organisers round the entire Ndokwa nation, preaching peace to the people was marked by good attendance from peace loving people of Ndokwa.
In his speech, the chairman of the occasion, Rev Chukwudi Eke, told the audience that for proper development to come to a place there must be peace, because if there is lack of peace, economic and social investors will be scared from coming around to such an unfriendly area.
Speaking on the theme, “See it and Say it”, Rev Eke admonished the people “not just to see it and say it, but must say it with convincing facts” instead of lies which may lead to crises.
Also speaking during the occasion, the traditional ruler of Ibedeni, His Royal Majesty, Jonathan Ede Oshimilikanegede, called on the political leaders of Ndokwa to see themselves as agents of peace in, starting from their activities and carriages. He bemoaned the politicians who naturally see the youths as a ready tool to keep them in power, but at the end do not see the need to help to provide the necessary incentives for the economic development of the area, and for youth development.
In his speech, the president of COPAN, Comr. Uboh Chuka Alex, called on all and sundry in Ndokwa to come together to build a peaceful society, in his word, “Building of peace is a collective effort from everybody, the government, churches, schools, associations, companies, and communities”. He said.
Speaking further, he recalled that the people of Ndokwa nation today are leaving in fear, as fear and hatred had replaced the once existing “Peaceful co-existence where you open your doors, to sleep at night, walk under the moon light from street to street…”.
Comr. Uboh in ending his speech called on the people of Ndokwa to put on the armour of peace and support the government of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa in his no 2 SMART AGENDA which is on meaningful peace platform, aimed at “Political and social stability for the prosperity of Ndokwa and Deltans”. He concluded.
The occasion was attended by many dignitaries, which included the representatives of the Area Commander of the Nigerian Police, Delta North, Dr (Mrs) Julie Agha Umukoro, from University of Port Harcourt.
