ABUJA/Nigeria: The Media Office of Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, the immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that he is under investigation for fraudulent diversion of constituency projects.
In a statement issued on Monday, and signed by him, the office described the claims as “false, criminally libelous,” and a deliberate attempt to tarnish Elumelu’s hard-earned reputation. The statement asserted that the allegations were a sponsored fabrication designed to mislead the public.
“For emphasis, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu never diverted any constituency project or conducted himself in any fraudulent manner whatsoever to warrant such investigation as reported,” the statement read.
Elumelu’s team further highlighted his track record in delivering significant infrastructural and human capital development projects in the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency. These projects include roads, drainages, electricity infrastructure, hospitals, schools, vocational centers, ICT centers, and town halls across 58 communities.
“It is on record that Rt. Hon. Elumelu ranks among the most prolific in the execution of constituency projects. All these projects were transparently executed and delivered to the admiration of all,” the office stated.
The statement criticized the absence of a byline in the report and its reliance on unnamed sources, labeling the publication as malicious and lacking credibility. It further warned the sponsors of the allegations that their efforts amounted to “chasing shadows.”
Elumelu has reportedly directed his legal team and relevant agencies, including the Directorate of State Services (DSS), to initiate legal proceedings for redress.
The Media Office concluded by urging the media to uphold professional ethics by verifying information before publication.
