EmPawa Publishing Ignites Lagos with Debut Fireside Chat, Advocates for Flourishing Ecosystem for Emerging Artists

LAGOS/Nigeria: In a groundbreaking event, emPawa Publishing orchestrated its much-anticipated inaugural Fireside Chat in Lagos, resonating a fervent call for the establishment of a conducive ecosystem for the growth of writers and creatives in the country.

Led by Ayomide Adeware, the Head of emPawa Publishing, the Fireside Chat showcased a distinguished panel featuring Mr Eazi, the Founder & CEO of emPawa Africa; Willard Ahdritz, Founder and Chairman of Kobalt Music; and Emmanuel ‘EKelly’ Nwosu, Head of Music at emPawa Africa.

The focal point of the discussions was the persistent necessity for robust infrastructure and comprehensive education for artists regarding their rights and privileges within the industry. The discourse also delved into the imperative adoption of international best practices and substantial financial investments in the Nigerian music industry and Africa as a whole.

Mr Eazi, reflecting on the session, emphasized the significance of ongoing education and support for creators, asserting, “Nigerian Music is the most consumed in Africa while Afrobeats is one of the fastest-growing genres. It is only right that we continue to provide education and support to creators so as to close the gaps in the African publishing ecosystem.”

Willard Ahdritz expressed optimism, stating his belief that Lagos could emulate the success of Los Angeles within a decade if the right structures were put in place.

The event witnessed the presence of notable figures in the industry, including Kenny Ogungbe, I.D Ogungbe, Olisa Adibua, Pretty Okafor, President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN); Killertunes, Osagie Osarenkhoe, Gospelondbeatz, Spreachbeats, Bizzle Osikoya, and Adaobi Obimma (Clients Partnership, emPawa Publishing). Executives from the Musical Copyright Society (MCSN) were also in attendance.

The Fireside Chat served as a dynamic platform for industry professionals and aspiring talents to connect, exchange ideas, and forge new partnerships in music publishing, industry trends, and the future of the music business. The resounding success of the event marks a significant step towards fostering a thriving environment for the burgeoning music scene in Nigeria.
