PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: The National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Mr. Emenike Nwokeoji, has declared that the days of operating as a clearing agent without a license will soon be a thing of the past.

Mr. Nwokeoji made this statement during a gathering of ANLCA Eastern Zone members in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, following his recent victory in the ANLCA election.

“Operating without a license is limiting yourselves,” emphasized Nwokeoji, stressing the importance of proper licensing for effective operation as a customs agent. He went further to admonish, “Don’t operate without any license. Get your license to avoid operating like a tout.”

Nwokeoji extended a promise of assistance to those seeking their operating licenses, suggesting the formation of cooperatives to raise the necessary finances. He emphasized the importance of job delineation within the association.

Acknowledging the support he received during the election, Nwokeoji attributed his victory to determination and divine grace, stating, “Our coming back with this glory that belongs to God is proof that if you’re determined, the sky is your limit.” He pledged to make a positive impact with the support of ANLCA members and divine guidance.

He also emphasized the role of leadership, noting, “No leader can perform beyond the support of the people he is leading.” Nwokeoji concluded by urging unity within the association and a collective effort toward its advancement.

Chief Sir Ernest Elochukwu, the former National President and now a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT), commended the recent election and called on all ANLCA members to unite for the growth of a strong, respected, and purposeful association.

Elochukwu noted that in the past, positions were often granted based on favoritism rather than merit. However, he expressed confidence in Nwokeoji’s leadership, emphasizing the need for support and a focus on the association’s progress.

Former Eastern Zonal Chairman, Chief Uche Martins, echoed optimism about Nwokeoji’s leadership, affirming that ANLCA was in capable hands. He called on all members to provide the necessary support to the new leadership.

Dr. Chinyere Celestina Okere expressed her gratitude for working alongside her male counterparts. She encouraged ANLCA members to come together to strengthen the association and regain its rightful position. She emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration with the Nigerian Customs Service for effective service delivery.

The event featured cultural displays, including the renowned Ohafia War Dance, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region.
