BOMADI/Nigeria: The people of Ogbein-ama Federated Community in Bomadi LGA has called on Federal Government, the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and Delta State Government to come to their rescue as erosion washed away Community seawall.
The Chairman in the Community, Mr Christopher Kemasuode made the call after erosion washed away the Community seawall last week thereby causing fear on the populace in the Community.
Mr Christopher said, in year 2009, in front of Ekpiekiri Primary School seawall also washed away by same erosion thereby causing serious flooding during flood season because nothing has been done on that.
He said, there were abandoned heavy weight Reno mattress and granite which belong to NDDC meant for the construction of sand filling and shore protection (pilling) in the community since 2012 were kept in the eroded part.
He said, when he noticed signs of erosion from the beginning, he put call to the contractor in charge of the project to quickly come and evacuate the properties before things get out of hand. Mr Christopher said, the contractor could only evacuate few of the pilling Reno mattress and leave many behind including the granite.
Also speaking, the Secretary in the Community Comrade Joseph Z Navy describes the situation as natural disaster which can escalate if drastic step is not taking to curtail further escalation.
Comrade Joseph said, the heavy weight Reno mattress and the granite also contributing factor for the erosion. He pointed out that it is certain that the eroded part of the seawall will definitely be a channel in which water will flow into the community to submerge all the buildings.
To check the continuous erosion of the community, they strongly appeals to FG, the board of NDDC and Delta State Govt to intervene as the erosion will cause serious flooding.
