UGHELLI/Nigeria: In a fervent plea for swift action, the Ewu Axis Political Union has called upon Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to intervene and address the recent brutal killing of four members of Okuama community in Ughelli south local government area of the state. The political pressure group issued an open letter dated January 31, 2024, addressed to the State Governor through the office of the Chief of Staff.
Expressing their deep concern, the letter warns of imminent danger as Okoloba community in Bomadi local government area purportedly plans a more deadly mission. The group implores the governor to act promptly, citing recent incidents including the severe beating of a visitor, assault on Okuama women returning from Okwagbe market, and ominous threats of mayhem in the community.
Signed by Chief Vincent Oduaran, Minister Omoteregha, and Olorogun David Adasen, the Chairman, Secretary, and national leader respectively, the letter urges Governor Oborevwori to come to the aid of Okuama community, highlighting the anxiety among residents who now “sleep with their eyes open,” fearing another strike from Okoloba community.
The letter provides the names of the victims as Igho Meshach, Okiemute David, Power Awusa, and an unidentified speedboat driver, with their bodies yet to be released.
Meanwhile, a relief effort led by a Committee chaired by Mr. Agagu and including member Mrs. Mercy Ogbobo has mobilized relief materials for women and children displaced by the attacks in Okwama community. The materials were received by Mr. David Akata, Vice Chairman of Okuama community.
The committee appeals to the governor and security agencies to act swiftly, emphasizing the potential repercussions on the state’s economy if the aggrieved Okuama youths’ sentiments are not addressed. They commend the intervention of community leaders and elders, which prevented the situation from escalating further.
