ASABA/Nigeria: Political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections gained fresh attention in Delta North Senatorial District on Sunday as a group of 56 immediate past Ward Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) declared support for former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, during a meeting at his residence in Asaba.
The former party officials said their decision was driven by a desire to strengthen the APC’s grassroots structure in the district, while pledging to work towards greater unity and improved electoral fortunes for the party in the next general elections.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Comrade Ossai J. Ossai, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, said the group would begin consultations across communities and party structures to encourage reconciliation among members and broaden participation within the APC.
According to him, restoring confidence among party faithful, particularly those dissatisfied with previous internal processes, remains essential to building a stronger and more united party ahead of future elections.
Ossai said the former ward chairmen were prepared to mobilise support for the APC at the grassroots, adding that unity, inclusion and sustained engagement with members would play a significant role in determining the party’s performance in 2027.
He explained that the group’s support for Okowa reflects its confidence in his leadership and his capacity to provide direction for the party in Delta North.
Some members of the delegation also used the meeting to raise concerns over their participation in recent party congresses, calling for a more inclusive approach to party administration and decision-making.
They urged the APC leadership to strengthen internal cohesion by creating opportunities for broader participation among members across the district.
Responding, Okowa thanked the former ward chairmen for the visit and their expression of confidence, describing unity as critical to the party’s future.
He encouraged party members to remain focused on strengthening internal relationships and working collectively towards the APC’s political objectives, assuring the delegation that efforts to deepen inclusiveness within the party would continue.
The meeting is one of several consultations taking place across Delta State as political actors and stakeholders intensify engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections, with attention increasingly shifting towards party cohesion, grassroots mobilisation and prospective candidates.
