UBULU-UNOR/Nigeria: In a candid discussion with a delegation from the Delta Online Publishers Forum, DOPF, Obi Henry Kikachukwu, the traditional ruler of Ubulu-Unor kingdom in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, has emphasized the transformative impact of exposure and educational backgrounds on contemporary traditional rulers.
Reflecting on the historical context, Obi Kikachukwu highlighted the pivotal role that knowledge plays in enhancing communication between traditional rulers and their subjects. Recounting the colonial era when interpreters were necessary for dialogue between rulers and colonial masters, he underscored how the current cadre of traditional leaders, thanks to education and exposure, can now effectively convey government policies and programmes to their communities.
The monarch emphasized the proactive engagement of present-day kings, contrasting it with a bygone era when rulers were confined to their palaces. According to him, the contemporary traditional rulers in Aniocha South actively contribute to the development of a template facilitating government interaction with rural communities. Their mobility and pursuit of ideas and reforms, he argued, are key to improving the well-being of their subjects.
Obi Kikachukwu, set to participate as one of the discussants at the Delta Online Publishers Forum’s 4th Convention and Lecture Series themed “Fiscal Policy and Taxation: Balancing Revenue Generation and Economic Growth,” commended the forum’s commitment to addressing critical national issues. He lauded their annual choice of themes, aimed at providing solutions, contributing to good governance, and fostering a democratic culture.
Expressing optimism about the potential impact of research-backed contributions from groups like the Delta Online Publishers Forum, the royal leader suggested that recognizing and incorporating these insights could substantially address the myriad challenges currently facing the nation.
