PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: Former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has cautioned some youths in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State against disparaging former governors of the state, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and Sir Celestine Omehia.
Eze, in a statement made available to journalists, described recent remarks credited to one Obinna Ekem and his group of political hirelings in Omagwa community as “idle talk” and the rantings of “vulnerable adults with zero basic life skills.” The group had allegedly boasted that both Amaechi and Omehia, who hail from Ikwerre, would be retired from politics after the 2027 general elections.
According to the APC stalwart, such comments were not only reckless but also insulting to two personalities who, he said, remain highly respected within and outside Rivers State. He advised the youths to channel their energies into learning useful skills that could improve their lives rather than serving as pawns in political battles. “These are illustrious Nigerians whose marks in the sands of time remain permanently engraved on the hearts of the people,” he noted.
Eze further dismissed the forthcoming local government elections in Rivers State, scheduled for August 30, as unlawful and an “embarrassment to recognized rules guiding elections in Nigeria.” He assured that the exercise would be invalidated in due course, citing a flood of legal challenges already filed against what he called “an odious illegality.”
He urged Rivers people to distance themselves from what he described as a political charade, warning the so-called APC youths in Ikwerre to desist from deliberate misstatements targeted at tarnishing the image of Amaechi, whom he praised as one of the founding pillars of the APC.
While lamenting that the ruling party had derailed from its founding principles and become “a disappointing nightmare for Nigerians,” Eze maintained that history would continue to record the roles played by Amaechi and Omehia in shaping both the party and Rivers State politics.
