Ezechi Backs Anioma State Creation, Calls for Equity and Fair Representation

ASABA/Nigeria: The push for the creation of Anioma State from the current Delta State has gained more political support as the Member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, has thrown his weight behind the move.

Speaking during a media hangout in Asaba on Sunday, Ezechi expressed his full backing for the creation of Anioma State, stating that it would promote balance, equity, and fair representation in the region. He emphasised that the initiative is beneficial to the people and aligns with the mandate given to him by his constituents.

“You will agree with me that there is nobody who would oppose the creation of an additional state if it is going to benefit the citizens,” Ezechi said. “I am in full support of the creation of Anioma State in the South-South region, and this reflects the aspirations of those who sent me to represent Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.”

Ezechi is not alone in his support. Ngozi Okolie, the Member representing Aniocha/Oshimili in the House of Representatives, also endorsed the creation of Anioma State during the Anioma Stakeholders Summit held in Asaba in August. Former House Member Ossai Nicholas Ossai, who also attended the summit, echoed his approval for the proposed state.

Traditional rulers present at the summit were equally enthusiastic about the prospect, particularly as Senator Ned Nwoko outlined the potential benefits of a separate state for the Anioma people. Nwoko stressed that the creation of Anioma State would bring government closer to the people and open up more opportunities for Anioma sons and daughters to serve in both elective and appointive positions.

Addressing the question of whether the new state should be part of the South-South or South-East region, Nwoko clarified that the decision ultimately rests with the federal government. However, he reiterated the numerous advantages of establishing Anioma State, highlighting the enhanced representation and developmental opportunities it would bring to the region.

Ezechi, now the third current federal lawmaker to endorse the creation of Anioma State, reflected on his achievements as a representative of Ndokwa/Ukwuani. He emphasised that his constituents’ needs remain a top priority in his legislative agenda and vowed to continue working for their progress at the National Assembly.

Commenting on Nigeria’s current economic challenges, Ezechi expressed concern about the nation’s inability to effectively enforce laws that address critical issues. He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to demonstrate greater commitment to enforcing existing laws and aligning his policies with the realities facing Nigerians today.

Ezechi also commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the attention his administration has given to the Ndokwa nation. He praised the governor’s efforts in attracting both federal and state government presence to the region, expressing pride in the progress made so far for his constituents.
