ABUJA/Nigeria: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has listed seven candidates for the House of Representatives election in the Ndokwa East/Ndokwa West/Ukwuani Federal Constituency of Delta State, setting the stage for a contest involving the incumbent lawmaker, Ezechi Nnamdi, and six other candidates representing different political parties.
The candidates listed are Okei Chukutem Felix of the Accord (A), Enubuzor Nicholas Onyekachukwu of the Action Alliance (AA), Ajeh Victor Onyeka of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Magbulu Ebele Mabel of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ezechi Nnamdi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ndidi Chibueze Charles of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and Uzouku Chidi Prince of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA). The constituency comprises Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West and Ukwuani Local Government Areas.
Conspicuously missing from the list is the candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Party (NDP), a development that may generate further interest as political activities gather momentum. Ndokwa Reporters understands that the party is currently contending with aspirants seeking its ticket for the constituency, although the details of the internal contest and its implications for the final candidate list remain unclear.
Ezechi Nnamdi, the incumbent representative who assumed office in June 2023, has during his tenure focused on education, infrastructure, healthcare, electricity advocacy and youth empowerment. Reports published during his tenure have highlighted classroom construction, educational support, constituency empowerment initiatives and legislative interventions addressing development challenges in the federal constituency.
Among the challengers, Enubizor Nicholas Onyekachukwu of the Action Alliance has presented a development vision through an interview published by Ndokwa Reporters, with proposals addressing employment, skills development, enterprise support and community development. Magbulu Ebele Mabel of the African Democratic Congress has also outlined campaign commitments centred on quality representation, community development, empowerment, education, transparency and accountability.
The emergence of the seven listed candidates provides voters across Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West and Ukwuani with an opportunity to assess the contenders’ experience, policy proposals and capacity to provide effective legislative representation. As the electoral process advances, attention is expected to focus on the candidates’ programmes and the political developments that may shape the final contest for the federal constituency.
