ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu has enjoined teachers to generate credible, reliable and valid item instruments that can stand the test of time
Mrs . Ezewu gave advice in Asaba while declaring open a one-day workshop on the generation of test items for the 2023 Promotion Examination in Public Secondary Schools.
She said that conducting the promotion examination was an annual event aimed at fostering uniformity of standards and credibility of the examinations in public schools across the State.
Mrs. Ezewu told the participants that as respected teachers in their various areas of specialisation, they were carefully selected for the workshop from pool of available teaching manpower in the State.
The Commissioner, however, admonished them to put their best towards ensuring the actualisation of the objectives of the workshop, adding that they should maintain high level of commitment and dedication to the task.
Mrs. Ezewu, who urged them to demonstrate absolute majority, confidentiality, integrity and resourcefulness in the pursuance of the generation of test items, hinted that the Ministry had suspended the use of broadsheet and approved the use of data sheets only for termly and promotion examination results.
Earlier, the Director of Examinations and Standards, Mr. Sunday Egomagwuna said that each participant was expected to generate fifty objective questions and five essay questions drawn from the subject curriculum.
Mr. Egomagwuna stated that the subject team leaders were expected to discuss the generated test items with the participants under them before the final work was submitted to Examinations Department and urged participants to take the workshop seriously.
He commended the Secondary Education Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro for their support and specifically for approving the workshop.
The Resource persons, Professor Patrick Osadebe of Department of Guidance and Counselling, Delta State University Abraka and the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Delta State Governor on Education and Curriculum Matters, Dr. Godwin Edozie made presentations on the new subject thematic area and guidelines on the generation of test items.
