Ezewu, Onoriode Urge School Students, Pupils To Embrace Reading Culture, Shun Negative Acts

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu has again stressed the need for secondary school students in public schools to abstain from negative acts that are inimical to their academic success and embrace continuous reading culture.

Mrs. Ezewu stated this while monitoring the conduct of the Second Term Examination of the 2023 Academic Session across the state.

The Education Commissioner said that the purpose of the exercise was to ascertain the level of compliance of schools with the guidelines for the conduct of the examination, issued by the State Government.

Mrs. Ezewu noted that assessment of the academic performances of students was critical indices for the overall growth and development of the standard of education in any society.

She advised students to desist from examination malpractice at all times and always have self confidence in writing any examination, adding that the State Government had Implemented salient policies designed to improve the education system.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Primary Education, Chief Sunday Onoriode has also visited some public primary schools in the state to monitor the conduct of the Second Term Examinations.

Chief Onoriode , who said that he was impressed with the seriousness and enthusiasm of the pupils in the schools he visited who were writing the examinations, stated that their comportment was a demonstration of the fact that they were prepared for the examinations.

While expressing satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the examinations, Chief Onoriode said that teaching was a noble profession and urged teachers to put in their best in building the lives of the children for the overall betterment of the society and the children in particular.

Chief Onoriode, who explained that the foundational stage of the educational pursuit and career of every individual was important, admonished parents to take the educational needs of their children and wards seriously.

The Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro said that officials of the Ministry had been deployed across the 25 Local Government Areas to monitor the examinations so as to find out if things went well as planned and expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examinations.

Mr. Oghoro , who wished the students well in the examinations, commended the State Government for providing conducive learning environment for children, enjoined them to avail themselves of the available learning materials  in their schools and commitment of the teachers to excel in their academic activities.

On his part, the Director of Examinations and Standards, Mr. Sunday Egomagwuna said that sufficient materials were distributed to various schools for the conduct of the examinations and appreciated the State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, the Commissioner for Primary Education, Chief Sunday Onoriode and the Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro for their support to the success of the examinations.
