Ezewu Warns Against Bush Burning Around Schools In Delta

OREROKPE/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, has warned the public against bush burning around schools in the state.

The commissioner gave the warning when she visited  Arhagba Secondary School in Okpe Local Government Area of the state  to ascertain the level of damage caused  by the fire outbreak from the nearby busy that razed the roof of some classroom blocks of the school.

Ezewu advised school authorities to always ensure that they did not allow grasses to overtake the premises of schools so as to avoid fire from burning them down.

She enjoined the public, especially herders, to desist from bush burning, adding that such unwholesome practice would impact negatively on the education system in the state.

The Secondary Education Commissioner also inspected schools in Okpe and Ethiope East Local Government Areas of the state.

Schools visited included Oha Secondary school, Orerokpe Secondary school and Oviore Secondary school.

Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Ezewu enjoined students to embrace reading culture and shun social vices.

She explained that their future depended largely on their seriousness to the academic activities, saying that teachers should ensure that they performed their duties creditably such that it could reflect on the academic performances of the students.
