LAGOS/Nigeria: Falcon Aerospace Ltd. (Falcon Aero) has appointed former Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Fola Akinkuotu, as Chairman of its Board of Directors, in a strategic move aimed at accelerating the company’s expansion across Africa and international markets.
The appointment signals a new phase in Falcon Aero’s growth strategy as the business aviation company seeks to strengthen regulatory compliance, deepen investor confidence and expand its footprint beyond West Africa into key economic hubs across the continent.
Chief Executive Officer of Falcon Aero, Mr. Erika Achum, announced the appointment in a statement on Tuesday, describing Akinkuotu as a veteran pilot, aircraft engineer and accomplished aviation administrator whose wealth of experience would provide strategic direction for the company’s next stage of development.

Also speaking, Falcon Aero’s Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Tejumade Salami, said the appointment marked a significant milestone in the company’s evolution and reflected its determination to align rapid growth with global regulatory standards.
According to her, Falcon Aero is intensifying efforts to expand into strategic African markets while pursuing broader international growth and capital mobilisation opportunities.
“His appointment comes at a crucial time when our continental expansion requires stronger alignment between corporate agility and stringent international regulatory standards,” Salami said.

Responding to his appointment, Akinkuotu expressed enthusiasm about joining the company at what he described as a defining moment in its development.

With more than 13,000 hours of logged jet flying experience, Akinkuotu brings over five decades of aviation expertise spanning airline operations, aviation training, corporate management and regulatory leadership.
He previously served as Director-General of the NCAA and later as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), where he played key roles in shaping aviation safety, regulation and airspace management in Nigeria.
Born in 1951 in Ondo State, Akinkuotu began his aviation career at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, where he obtained an Aircraft Engineer Maintenance Licence.
He later trained at the Sierra Academy of Aeronautics in Oakland, California, earning a Commercial Pilot Licence, Multi-Engine Rating, Instrument Rating and Flight Engineer’s Licence for the Boeing 727 turbojet aircraft.
His professional qualifications were further enhanced with an Air Transport Pilot Licence from Sunnyside Aviation Academy in New York and a Certificate in Total Quality Management from Lagos Business School, among other certifications.
Over the years, he has held senior operational and leadership positions at Nigeria Airways, Kabo Airlines, Virgin Nigeria Airlines, ADC Airlines and IRS Airlines.
One of the defining moments of his flying career came in 1998 when he was entrusted with piloting Pope John Paul II during the Pontiff’s pastoral visit to Nigeria.
Beyond the cockpit, Akinkuotu successfully led IRS Airlines as Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, served as Director of Flight Operations at Virgin Nigeria Airlines and contributed to aviation manpower development as Rector of the International Aviation College, Ilorin.
Industry observers believe his appointment positions Falcon Aero to leverage his vast regulatory, operational and leadership experience as it pursues its ambition of becoming a leading business aviation operator across Africa and beyond.
