DUTSE/Nigeria: The federal government has reiterates its commitment to evolve policies and programmes to explore tourism and culture sector in order to enhance the economic fortunes of the nation.
The Honourable Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed stated this at the National Council on Culture, Tourism and National Orientation held recently at Dutse in Jigawa State.
Alhaji Mohammed emphatically stated that the meeting with the theme, “Tourism and Culture as Panacea for Nigerian Economic Recovery” was apt and in tandem with the present administration’s avowed commitment to boost the economy through the non-oil sector.
The Minister while speaking further on the intrinsically intertwined nature of culture and tourism, advised government at the federal, state and local levels to provide an enabling environment to achieve the set goals.
He stated that the whole 36 states of the nation as well as the Federal Capital Territory, were well endowed with diverse cultures, heritage and tourist attractions that hold very high potentials to generate employment for the teeming youths and revenue for the Government.
He reiterated that the gathering of the Council Meeting had the task of evolving more viable policies and programmes capable of taking Nigeria to the next level and to achieve the aspirations and objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He revealed that the nation had reached an agreement with the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the global news channel to promote our country as a tourism destination, saying both film and music industry would be harnessed.
In a separate remark, the Hon. Minister informed the gathering that UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) had granted Nigeria the hosting right for the 61st Commission for Africa (CAF) meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, and urged all stakeholders to synergize with the Ministry for a successful hosting and to take advantage of the meeting to showcase their products to the international community.
