Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria Merged with Voice of Nigeria as Government Implements Orosanye Report

ABUJA/Nigeria: In a significant move towards governmental restructuring and cost reduction, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has approved the adoption of the Orosanye Report. This decision, announced by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, marks a pivotal moment in the country’s governance landscape.

Speaking to State House correspondents following the FEC meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Minister Idris outlined the implications of this adoption. “With the adoption of the report,” he stated, “it means that some agencies, commissions, and departments of government have been scrapped, some merged, some subsumed under some others and others moved under new ministries where they are supposed to perform better.”

Highlighting the government’s rationale behind the decision, Minister Idris emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to making courageous decisions in the interest of Nigerians. “In a very bold move today,” he remarked, “this administration, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, consistent again with his courage to take very far-reaching decisions in the interest of Nigerians, has taken a decision to implement the so called Orosanye Report.”

Acknowledging the impact of these changes, Minister Idris underscored the multifaceted objectives driving the adoption of the report. “It is aimed, one, to fine-tune or to restructure government operations as a whole,” he explained. “Secondly, it’s in line also with [the] decision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reduce the cost of governance.”

Crucially, Minister Idris clarified that the adoption of the report would not lead to job losses for individuals employed within the affected agencies and departments. This assurance seeks to mitigate concerns regarding the potential repercussions of the restructuring process.

The merging of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria with the Voice of Nigeria represents one of the tangible outcomes of this governmental overhaul. As Nigeria navigates this period of transition, the implementation of the Orosanye Report signals a concerted effort towards streamlining operations and fostering greater efficiency within the public sector.
