OLEH/Nigeria: The Federal Commissioner representing National Population Commission (NPC), Sir Richard Odibo has advised Nigerians not to comprise the services of the commission.
Odibo gave the advice in an interaction with journalists shortly after the flag off of phase 14 of the ongoing Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) in the state at Isoko South Local Government Council Secretariat, Oleh recently.
The NPC commissioner who stated that the phase 14 of the exercise was for Isoko South, Bomadi and Patani Local Government Areas, emphasized that NPC was concern about the national planning and development of Nigeria.
Odibo said that these could only be achieved through a data base of the population and demography of the population at a given time, warning against compromise particularly in birth and death registration.
He advised parents yet to register their children to do so and that adults who have no birth certificates should abstain an attestation from NPC offices in local government councils across the country.
The commissioner stated that attestation from NPC was the only document that was acceptable by international communities for that purpose.
Earlier in his key note address at the interactive session with stakeholders, he appealed for the cooperation and support for the commission in the EAD exercise.
Odibo explained that the EAD was a preparation for the forthcoming census and not census itself.
He later paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council Honourable Victor Asasa.
He made a similar appeal to the councillors of the local government council to assist in the enlightenment campaign of the exercise in their respectively wards during the visit.
Chairman of the council, Hon Asasa assured Sir Odibo of the council’s support in the provision of security.
