ASABA/Nigeria: The Federal Government has lauded Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his proactive and visionary leadership in driving critical infrastructural development across the state.

Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, gave the commendation during an inspection of the Second Niger Bridge access road, where he praised the governor’s decisive support for the landmark project and other vital infrastructure in Delta.

Speaking to journalists in Asaba, Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State, highlighted Oborevwori’s foresight in gazetting the right-of-way for the access road extending to Issele-Azagba and personally overseeing property revocation and compensation efforts.

“Let me commend very, very highly the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, because he has gazetted the right-of-way for the Second Niger Bridge access road to Issele-Azagba. He has revoked the necessary properties and is paying compensation himself,” Umahi stated.

The minister urged other state governors to emulate Oborevwori’s collaborative model, stressing that such support could fast-track federal projects and deliver real benefits to local communities.

“I appreciate the synergy between the Delta State Government and the Federal Government on these projects. The proactive approach by the Delta Government in handling compensation has been key to the progress we’re seeing,” Umahi said, assuring that his ministry would uphold its commitments.

He also commended the design and execution of the flyover and road expansion projects in Effurun, describing them as innovative and striking. “I love the curves, and I have stolen that design — I’m going to use it,” he remarked, praising the creativity behind the projects.

Describing Oborevwori as a leader with vision and a progressive spirit, Umahi said, “He has a very large heart and a very progressive mind. No wonder he is with us now. I commend him very highly.”

During his visit to the Warri-Benin-Asaba Road, Umahi expressed concern about delays on the Effurun-Sapele section and charged contractors to expedite work to meet deadlines.

“Timely completion is crucial, and I expect all contractors to work diligently towards achieving this goal,” he warned.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Oborevwori, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to a strong partnership with the Federal Government, appreciating the 17.6km access road and proposed concrete rehabilitation works.

Emu stressed that the economic benefits of these projects would be significant upon completion and thanked President Bola Tinubu and the works ministry for their dedication to delivering them.
