Flood Control: Delta Govt Efforts Yielding Positive Results – Nani

Hon. John Obukohwo NaniAsaba: The flood reduction and control measures adopted by the Sen. Ifeanyi Authur Okowa led Delta State government in parts of the state is already paying off with the desired positive result of ensuring that flood prone communities in the state do not suffer the devastating and challenging effects of flooding occasioned by heavy rainfall and blockages of surface drainages and other natural water channels.

The government intervention which involved the deployment of swamp buggies and other heavy duty equipment to clear and open all blocked and silted drains and water channels in the state has witnessed the easy and rapid flow of flood water to nearby natural sources.

Speaking during a working visit to some of the areas, the State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. John Obukohwo Nani expressed joy that the government efforts is yielding positive results and promised that clearing and opening of waterways will be a continuous process in the state but subject to available resources. He applauded the undying commitments and exceptional leadership qualities of Gov. Okowa in effectively managing the lean resources for the better good of all Deltans.

“While promising that this crucial exercise will be a continuous process, I must warn that the government is totally against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and blockage of drains and water channels. I assure you that perpetrators and offenders will be adequately punished in accordance with the state sanitation laws.”

Barr. Nani charge residents and business owners in the state to complement government efforts by desilting the drains and maintain the environment around their premises saying that a Clean and healthy environment is a collective responsibility of all stakeholders.
