Flood Submerges NPA Warri-Effurun Express Way

EFFURUN/Nigeria: The ever-busy NPA Warri-Effurun Express Way was submerged by flood, no thanks to the heavy downpour in the area at the weekend.

The affected portions of the federal road included Bon Hotel to Chevron, Prodeco, Ugbuwangue and Ogunu-Ugbuwangue Bye Pass

Our correspondent who monitored the situation, observed that vehicular moment was impeded and that some desperate vehicle users drove on one way during the heavy downpour.

It was also observed that Ogunu-Ugbuwangue Bye Pass was a no-go area several hours when the ‘cats and dogs’ rain subsided.

Motorists that ventured into the Ogunu-Ugbuwangue Bye Pass had a bitter experience of having a breakdown.

It was also observed that the recently constructed gutter at the median on the road in Ugbuwague area by the Warri/Uvwie Urban Renewal Agency Development Agency was over grown with weeds and completely covered by flood as at the time of filing this report.

It was however a good time for some unscrupulous commercial tricycle (keke) riders who took advantage of the ugly situation in washing their Keke.

A concerned car owner, Hon Mike Oritseweyimi Eboh who spoke to our on the issue at Ugbuwangue area during the heavy downpour, noted that the flood was an embarrassment to Warri South, and Uvwie Local Governments, Delta State and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Eboh, who is also the Chairman of Association of Private School Owners of Nigeria (APSON) Warri South Local Government Area Chapter, further noted that the flood was a death trap to motorists, particularly first-time users of the road.

“It is fortunate and shameful that the road is flood-prone in an area surrounded by rivers,” he added.

The ebony black renowned opinion leader and owner of the famous Trust International School, Warri therefore called on the relevant authorities, to as a matter of urgency, provide a lasting solution to the perennial problem of flooding on the said road.
