‘ABOH/Nigeria: Another flood disaster is eminent in Delta State as some communities are facing sack from effect of flood as a result of rising water level and continuous rainfall in the state.
One of the communities likely to be affected is Beneku, in Ndokwa east, the home town of the state Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon Friday Ossai Osenebi, which at the last check will be submerged within the next 72 to 120 hours, and this calls for urgent action by the authourity.
Report reaching the newsroom of Ndokwa Reporters as at last night revealed that the bridge leading to the Community from Kwale in Ndokwa West Local Government Area had been submerged with commuters travelling to Beneku wading through the water.
At Beneku, which the only means of accessing the community from the outside world is through the Pontoo, is presently flooded, with all the access roads taken over by water.
It could be recalled that one of the palliative measures put in place by the present government to avoid the 2012 flood incident was the construction of drainages to take water to the river, but from information reaching us, the level of water in the river has risen to a level, that the drainage is now the channel the excess water of the river is now flowing to the community.
According to the report, the second main road that runs through the community has been taken over by water, with all the undeveloped lands now flooded.
Beneku community, which is endowed with crude oil resources, is one of the least developed communities in the country without access road, despite the amount of wealth that comes from there.
According to one of the persons who were interviewed, she lamented the situation, and calls on the authourity to take urgent action to avoid the 2012 incident where many of them lost their means of livelihood and properties.
She said 2012 was horrible, and they would not want to face the same experience.
The community lack basic health and developmental amenities like good toilet as many people use the open means. With water taken over the various open lands in the community, it means danger of reptile attack and possible disease epidemic.
