ASABA/Nigeria: The state Female Team in the Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL Delta Queens on Saturday (May 25th) held the National Champions Bayelsa Queens to a 1-1 draw at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
The encounter lived up to its bidding as one between rivals with Okowa babes dominating play for the better part of the game while it lasted.
The national Champions Bayelsa Queens however held their own and proved why they are champions as they denied Delta Queens the much needed goal that would have separated the sides.
Speaking shortly after the encounter, The General Manager and Chief Executive officer Delta Queens FC, Asaba, Miss Ehiabor Henrrientta said the friendly became necessary so as to prepare the girls ahead for a new NWPL soon to commence hopefully.
She said though the team is been having constant trainings, it’s important to expose them to solid opponents in the league to boost their condidence ahead of competitive matches in the league.
For his part the head coach Delta Queens, Coach George Emenetie expressed satisfaction on the team’s performance commending the strength and dexterity of the girls.
He said though there will always be room for improvement, the management of the Team has been taking seriously, trainings and a total over hauling of the team.
Coach George who noted that it was unfortunate that the Nigeria Women Premier League 2003, 2008, 2009, 2011 champions, Delta Queens did not end up in their usual winning ways last season, affirmed that all hands are on deck to ensure they regain lost glories .
