OREROKPE/Nigeria: Hundreds of residents in Orerokpe and adjoining communities in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State thronged a free medical outreach programme facilitated by the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Ede Dafinone, in a major intervention aimed at addressing healthcare gaps at the grassroots.
The exercise, which drew large turnout from indigent and vulnerable residents, offered comprehensive medical services including consultations, diagnosis, treatment and distribution of essential drugs, while patients with vision challenges were provided with corrective eyeglasses at no cost.
Speaking on the initiative, Senator Dafinone said the programme was designed to bring quality healthcare services closer to the people, particularly those who lack access due to financial limitations or distance from medical facilities.
He disclosed that the outreach is part of a broader intervention plan structured to cover four strategically selected communities across Delta Central to ensure wider reach and impact.
Represented by his Okpe Local Government Liaison Officer, Mr. Yegbeburu, the senator noted that the exercise aligns with his ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in the district.
According to him, beyond periodic medical outreaches, his office has embarked on the construction, renovation and equipping of healthcare centres across various communities to improve access to quality medical services.
He emphasised that the initiative is focused on vulnerable groups who are often excluded from proper healthcare due to economic challenges and inadequate facilities.
Dafinone reaffirmed his commitment to people-centred representation, pledging to continue attracting impactful projects and programmes that directly benefit constituents.
“I remain committed to providing qualitative and result-oriented representation at the Red Chamber while ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach our people,” he said.
The medical services were delivered by a team of healthcare professionals led by Mr. Matthew Uruejoma, who supervised the diagnosis, treatment and distribution of drugs to patients.
Stakeholders and coordinators of the programme, including Mr. Yegbeburu, the Medical Outreach Coordinator, Mr. Henry Esiri, and Supervisor at the Border Community Development Agency, Mr. Ovie Esievo, commended the senator for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.
They noted that the intervention would significantly improve the health conditions of beneficiaries, many of whom had been unable to access medical care due to financial constraints.
Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation, describing the outreach as a major relief and a demonstration of responsive leadership at the grassroots, while pledging continued support for the senator.
