ASABA/Nigeria: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has lauded Governor Rt Hon Sherrif Oborevwori of Delta State for the monumental 78 billion Naira flyovers and road expansion projects in the Warri and Effurun Metropolis, being handled by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.

Their praise also extended to the comprehensive road maintenance initiatives across the state, including the pivotal palliative repairs of the federal road between Abraka-Obiaruku axis, courtesy of indigenous contractor Obakpor Engineering Ltd.

Mr. Bassey Udeme Eshiet, the State Sector Commandant of FRSC, made this observations during a courtesy visit by Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, the new Head of Delta State Orientation Bureau and Executive Assistant on Communication to the Governor.

Eshiet highlighted the importance of public awareness regarding the dire consequences of road crashes, underlining Governor Oborevwori’s substantial investment in infrastructure aimed at curbing accidents and enhancing traffic flow, particularly mentioning the significant impact on the Abraka-Obiaruku axis.

Praising the Governor’s foresight, Eshiet emphasized the visionary leadership exhibited in the construction of major flyovers, cloverleafs, and road expansion projects. He hailed these as legacy initiatives that would significantly alleviate traffic congestion in high-volume areas across the three senatorial districts, ultimately preserving lives and facilitating smoother transportation of goods and services.

The FRSC expressed eagerness to collaborate with the Delta State Orientation Bureau, recognizing their shared commitment to road safety. Dr. Oghenesivbe echoed this sentiment, citing prevalent causes of accidents such as speeding, drunk-driving, and distracted driving. He stressed the Bureau’s mandate to reorient the public’s values and behavior, aligning with the Governor’s agenda to safeguard lives on the roads, particularly during the festive period.

Highlighting the menace of alcohol and substance abuse among drivers, Oghenesivbe advocated for measures to deter these practices, including sensitization programs targeting drivers and citizens, urging the cessation of alcohol sales and drug distribution in public parks. The Bureau proposed joint efforts with FRSC, aiming for extensive sensitization campaigns across motor parks using various media platforms and advocating for the removal of drinking joints in these areas.

This collaborative effort emphasized not only the immediate focus on the festive season but also laid the groundwork for sustained road safety initiatives. Dr. Oghenesivbe, accompanied by key officials from the State Orientation Bureau, sought to solidify this partnership, emphasizing the joint commitment to road safety awareness across the state’s districts.
