SAPELE/Nigeria: As the build-up of the 2019 General election draws closer, various interests and individual groups are meeting to give their supports, endorse their preferred candidates and at the same time contribute their words and resources to ensure that their preferred candidates comes out victorious in any of the process that will finally give the person the mandate to represent them in the office they seek.
As part of the preparation, one of the five musketeers who founded the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Ighoyeta Amori has openly declared his intention to contest for the Senatorial Seat of Delta Central at the National Assembly, come 2019.
Addressing the marmot crowd of the party faithful from the 8 Local Government Areas that make up Delta Central, who gathered in his country home in Mosoghar, Ethiope West Local Government Area, Chief Amori declared his intention in a speech laden with emotion, full of appeal to send him to the senate.
He told the party members, who were made up of elders, women, youths and friends that they will not regret sending him to the Nigerian senate, come 2019.
“You know what I can do, Give me this Mandate, and you will never regret it”. He said.
Chief Amori who spoke after different persons from the various local government area has spoken, thanked them for their support, since he was removed from the senate by the Court of Appeal.
In a prepared speech for the occasion, which he did not read, he said his removal by the court as the senator representing the area, though gave him pain, but it had strengthened him to comeback to reclaim the stolen mandate the people gave him in 2015.
The PDP chieftain said while he was at the senate, he gave the people of Delta Central good representation by doing all that a senator is required to do, even in the heat of the litigations against his election at the Tribunal and the Law Courts.
He reminded the people that the Urhobo nation is being under represented at the helm of affairs at the national level, and he is seeking to liberate them.
“I am seeking to liberate my people from under-performing leadership. Urhobo must stand again. Delta Central must have a voice in the National Assembly”.
“I am not seeking for power, I am seeking for opportunity to serve you.”
The various speakers who spoke from the different Local Government Areas, including the Commissioner of Local Government Affairs, Mr. Bright Edejhaware, Chief Bernard Edewor who was the Chairman of the occasion had openly given their supports to ensure that chief Amori becomes the candidate of the party in the 2019 Delta Central Senatorial Election.
Chief Amori standing on the support from the various local government and those who spoke, thanked them for the trust imposed on him to represent them, and promised that he will give them the representation that will move the area forward.
Among those who attended the declaration ceremony are, the member representing Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon Awhinawi, the Chairmanship Candidate of the Party in the January 2018 Local Election, for Ethiope East, Mrs Faith Majemite, the Managing Director of DESOPADEC, Chief Williams Makinde, and friends and in-laws from outside the Delta central.
