ASABA/Nigeria: Nigerians had been enjoined to accept and respect the National symbols that bind us together as a people.
The Delta State Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA), J.I.B. Okoro, made this affirmation in a Press Released made available to the Press by the Agency’s Information Officer, Comrade Abel Johngold, on Saturday, 16th September, 2017, as Nigerians celebrates this year National Ordinance Day (NOD).
According to Okoro, National Ordinance Day celebrated every 16th September is a day set apart to promote the National symbols; emphasize their significance; highlight their importance and educate Nigerians on what should be our attitude to the symbols, especially as they are symbols of our unity that bound us together as one Nation.
The State Director said that it is not only disrespectful to treat our National Symbols with disrespect, it is also an offence. He therefore urged Nigerians to desist from writing on our currency and spraying the naira at parties and to endeavour to fly a clean and standard flag which is not sewn but printed.
He noted that the NOD awakens the consciousness of Nigerians to the correct features of the Nigeria National Symbols (NNS). To promote and standardized the correct shape, colours and use of the National symbols, particularly our Currency and National Flag.
“These symbols include the Nigeria flag, the National Anthem, the National Pledge, Coat of Arms, Constitution, the Nigerian currency, the Nigerian international Passport and the Nigerian National Identity Card”. Okoro asserted.
