CAPE TOWN/South Africa: The Global Black Impact Summit (GIBS), scheduled to be held from November 30 to December 1 in Dubai this year, has been praised as a remarkable showcase of unity, growth, and empowerment within the global Black community, according to the event’s organizers.
The GIBS emphasized the profound contributions of Black scholars and leaders in academia, highlighting their pivotal role in shaping history and paving the way for future generations. This event will provide a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and the celebration of educational pioneers, reinforcing the importance of education as a catalyst for positive change.
The GIBS pointed out that scholars and academics have played a fundamental role in shaping modern society. They have fostered communities, developed skills, driven technological innovation, and challenged societal norms and inequality. The summit underscores that without the contributions of Black educators, society would not be where it is today.
Moreover, education, according to GIBS, is the cornerstone of democracy and the driver of societal progress. Notable figures such as Nelson Mandela have underlined the transformative power of education in changing the world.
The event pays homage to a multitude of influential Black academics and scholars throughout history, including Thomas Sowell, Cheikh Anta Diop, Mohammed Bagayogo Es Sudane Al Wangari Al Timbukti, Sadie T. M. Alexander, Ahmed Zewail, Aziza Baccouche, and Fatsah Ouguergouz, among many others.
These distinguished individuals have not only contributed to the academic sphere but have also been instrumental in fighting against racial inequality through education. Figures such as Mary McLeod Bethune and Carter G. Woodson have been celebrated for their tireless efforts to provide quality education to African-American students and to recognize the achievements of Black people, respectively.
The GIBS aims to bring together Black scholars and academics worldwide, fostering connections, engagement, and collaboration. It represents a pivotal platform for thought leaders, innovators, and academics to expand their influence across the global academic community.
