KWALE/Nigeria: Governor of Delta state, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has expressed dismay over the recent findings that Delta state is ranked the third state in Nigeria affected by human trafficking.
Governor Okowa expressed his dissatisfaction during a campaign against human trafficking organized by Delta State Government, NAPTIP and Onu Ika Nigeria at the Anglican Church of Christ, Kwale.
The Governor who was represented by the Head of Collective Leadership, Mr Daniel Usifoh said that the people of Delta State have never been known to be a depot for human trafficking.
He said that NAPTIP which is also part of the campaign against human trafficking is on ground to arrest sponsors of human trafficking.
The head of NAPTIP, Barr Nduka Nwanwene, who gave a lecture and a documentary film on the ordeal passed through by persons who passed through Sahara Desert to Libya, stated that from the interview of some of the victims, many of them were deceived to go by air to Europe but on getting to the border between Nigeria and Niger republic had their passports confiscated and forced to go by road. Most of them tortured to call their parents back home in Nigeria to send money to them after which they were released
